The Ghana Revenue Authority together with the Ghana Union of Traders is to carry out sustained nationwide tax education. These education programmes will ensure voluntary tax compliance.
Joseph Obeng, the president of Ghana Union of traders (GUTA) has urged Ghana’s tax authorities to ensure equity. He said tax authorities must ensure equity in the collection of taxes among businesses. He believes this will encourage businesses to pay their taxes willingly.
At the launch of an educational collaboration between GUTA and GRA on Friday in Accra, Dr. Obeng said that considering the huge social interventions taken by the state, businesses owe it as a duty to pay taxes.
Mr. Obeng asked the government to match each commercial area to the appropriate offices in which taxes are being paid. He said this will help bring in areas that are not paying their taxes.
He said taxes that are affordable, ensure compliance. Mr Joseph Obeng urged the government to reduce the taxes paid by businesses.
He suggested that for government to ensure tax compliance, it should add VAT with income tax system. This will enable tax payers to pay their taxes readily.
