Special Prosecutor wasn’t starved of resources – Nana Addo rejects Amidu’s claims

In responding to the claims made by ex-Special Prosecutor. Contrary to the claims made by the former Special Prosecutor.  President has said he provided the needed resources that will enable Mr Amidu to carry out his work effectively.

To clarify claims made by the former Sp. President AKuffo-Addo said, he had instructed the chief of staff together with the minister of finance. To ensure the fast track of setting-up the Office of the Sp.  President Akufo-Addo went on to say he provided the Sp with the necessary assistance. In terms of funds and administration to help execute the mandate given to the office without problems.

This comes after Mr Amidu resigned from his office. Mr Amidu, the Special Prosecutor in his resignation letter. Described what made him unable to deliver on his mandate. HE stated that the government failed to provide him with the adequate resources he needed to perform his duties.

But President Akufo-Addo in responding to the claims by ex-Special Prosecutor, he said the alleged administrative challenges encountered by Mr  Amidu have no merit.

“Indeed, the records show that in keeping with his resolve. To sufficiently equip the Office in the discharge of its mandate under Act 959. Remarkably, your letter of resignation refers to your office been deprived finances  imposed on the Office of the Special Prosecutor. You also bemoan the non-payment of the salaries of yourself and the Deputy Special Prosecutor in a manner that suggests the Government’s failure to do so.  This was to enable it to undertake setting-up of it activities.

He said the Special Prosecutor failed to request for money.

The President went further and revealed thatin 2019, Special Prosecutors office submitted a budget. The president this amount is higher than the budget of most ministries.

The President in his statement noted that, although Mr Amidu’s office failed to apply for funds in 2019. Ministry of finance disbursed Ghs 65.9 million into the account of the office of the Sp.
